April Angler of the Month

The Lowcountry Kayak Anglers wishes to recognize our April 2016 Angler of the Month: William Swain of Goose Creek.

One of the changes for the 2016 club year was to award a prize to the angler with the largest fish of each month of the "Angler of the Year" competition.  April's target-species for AOY was the speckled sea trout - and William secured first place for the month with a nice 22" fish.  He takes home a $20 gift certificate to the Charleston Angler and the maximum 200-points towards AOY.

The winning fish came out of the Wando River - William was out with his father and fellow club member Joshua - and the fish hit early in the morning trip.  The trout fell for a mud minnow under a cork.  He said he almost lost it at the kayak during the retrieve!

William and his dad have a side-bet going on: whoever places highest each month the most wins a rod & reel from the loser.  We'll have to keep an eye on this competition as well as the overall standings.

Here is how the top ten rounded-out, with the sizes of fish caught and points awarded.  In cases of ties, the earliest fish submitted won.  As you can see we had a few ties between 1st-6th place:

1. William Swain 22.00" 200pts
2. Jared Dolan 22.00" 199pts
3. Dave Jaskiewicz 20.50" 198pts
